Nearly 3,000 people, including 12 children, have died from the flu this year as an unusually early and brutal flu season has begun. Dr. Marc Siegel explained there are several reasons for this.
The cumulative hospitalization rate this year is"higher than the rate observed in week 46 during every previous season since 2010-2011," the report noted.
Flu season"generally peaks" in January-February, he noted, but"it is already at high levels in many states."He added,"Also, I believe that our immune systems are a bit slower to respond because of prior lockdowns, masks" and more. The vast majority of identified flu types are subtypes of Influenza A, making up 99.3% of tested flu specimens. Influenza B accounts for the remaining .7%.
