'Mark Menzies - no more sleaze before July 4th please'
Last month, LancsLive reported a sign had appeared in Ansdell, declaring love for local Fylde MP, Mark Menzies. The building it appears in front of is currently under construction, but the hoarding bore the words: "We love Mark Menzies - the Bad People."
The 'Bad People' signature refered to a scandal which saw Menzies, who has been serving the constituency of Fylde since 2010, leave the Conservative Party.Since then, the sign had been covered up - but mysteriously and much to the amusement of locals, brand new words have appeared. This time it reads: "Mark Menzies - no more sleaze before July 4th please. You can see the bad people as much as you like after that.
Investigating the mystery case of a reappearing sign, LancsLive went down to the site to try and get to the bottom of it. As the building was only occupied by builders, we spoke to the site manager to informed us he had no idea who the mysterious artist is. They said the sign had been re-painted since the last time it had been written on, but after leaving the site over the Bank Holiday weekend, they returned to work to find a new quote had been painted on. For now, the mystery remains.
Earlier this year, an investigation by The Times claimed Menzies made a late-night call to a 78-year-old aide asking for help because he had been locked up by "bad people" who demanded thousands of pounds for his release. The MP disputed this, but Menzies was subsequently stripped of his Tory whip whilst an investigation is underway.
