GMMH says it is 'very sorry'
An NHS trust that jurors felt 'probably contributed' to Ryan Lowry's death through a series of failings has issued an apology following his inquest. Members of the jury ruled yesterday that Mr Lowry, from Marple, was 'unlawfully killed' by his cousin Ashley Glennon, who had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
In their summary of the circumstances surrounding the death, the jury said that GMMH 'failed to effectively identify, monitor, assess and manage the increased general risk and risk of relapse' by Mr Glennon before he attacked Mr Lowry. They felt this 'probably contributed' to his death. "We are very sorry for the shortcomings in the standard of care and treatment we provided to Mr Glennon. Since Ryan Lowry’s death, the circumstances were thoroughly investigated both by GMMH, and by NHS England, who commissioned an independent investigation.
