Dr. Marc Johnson, a professor at the University of Missouri, said he thinks someone who lives in central Ohio is dealing with a chronic case of COVID-19, and he's calling it one of the longest cases he has seen of the virus.Johnson has been researching COVID-19 in wastewater samples since 2020. When looking at Ohio's data, samples from Columbus and Washington Court House stood out.
He said the data from samples of wastewater collected from Columbus' Southerly wastewater plant and Washington Court House showed a rare situation. He thinks one person has had chronic COVID-19 for more than two years. Johnson predicts that person lives in Columbus and works in Washington Court House because they found the same lineage in samples collected on the same day.
According to Johnson, the potential person is not spreading the virus because that would be evident in the wastewater samples.
