Public Works Director David Hopkins was charged Thursday with terroristic threats and harassment after an incident involving 11- and 12-year-old boys in October in the College Hill neighborhood, city police report.
After the brief appearance, Hopkins was released on $5,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing will be scheduled to determine if there is sufficient evidence to send the charges toward trial in Northampton County Court. The boys then ran off onto Pierce Street “to get away” and Hopkins followed, police said. The boys eventually went into Lafayette’s Allan P. Kirby Sports Center, which fronts on Pierce Street, followed by Hopkins, police said.Hopkins allegedly told the boy, “Take this as a lesson. If I find you or that again, I will hunt you down,” then threatened violence against the pair.
The children’s parents called police and identified Hopkins as the man who threatened the 12-year-old, police said.
