A new planning application has been validated by Nottingham City Council to transform the old Tales of Robin Hood site in Maid Marian Way into a new business space.
A planning application has been submitted to transform the old Tales of Robin Hood site in Maid Marian Way . The site has been mainly empty since the closure of the attraction in 2009, with only a Tesco Express housed in part of the premises. Nottingham 's Castle Gym is to relocate on the site, with boss Luke Willmott saying in October 2023 that this was a 'brave decision'.
The 'incredible business space' would create 100 jobs in total, with two out of the three businesses confirmed as the £2 million gym and a 'distinguished fine dining establishment' called Milo’s Restaurant and Social. Castle Gym closed at the end of November 2022 after 40-odd years running from its former site in Castle Boulevard. Its previous building had been sold by the city council and, following the sale, an eviction notice was later served to the team behind the gym, which was forced to close. It was recognised as one of the oldest gyms in the city. The Maid Marian Way redevelopment was set to cost £5 million. Mr Willmott previously said that the development was going to be finished in the early half of 2024, however, the company was 'still jumping some hurdles'. Several months on little progress appears to have been made and the site looks far from ready but now a new planning application has been validated by Nottingham City Council on September 30. The proposal concerns the 'change of use from former Robin Hood Visitor Attraction Centre into two units for, Unit 1 - Gym (Class E(d) (ground and mezzanine) and Unit 2 - an Office (first floor) for either visiting members of the public (Class E(c) or for business use, employees and its visitors (Class E(g)(i))'. Nottinghamshire Live has approached Castle Gym for comment on several occasions but we haven't heard anything back yet
