The ECHO were given a look inside the factory today
began looking for a site to make cars in the UK in 1960 and Halewood was soon selected. The Ford Anglia was the first car off the production line, and the plant officially opened in 1964. Ford ’s Halewood manufacturing facility celebrated its 60th anniversary today in a pivotal year for the plant as it transitions away from building transmissions for internal combustion engines to e-motors for future electric vehicles like the Ford Transit and Ford Puma.
Ford Fund have also recently announced a £1m investment into the Halewood community and Liverpool City Region to support essential services and education for the future of work. The firm is also due to start installing solar power in the plant as part of its efforts to decarbonise its operations across the UK.
The ECHO were allowed inside the factory top mark this anniversary. Inside there is a robot dog and 3D printing machines to speed up its operations, as well as some classic Ford cars parked outside in a nod to the company’s long history.
