A public funeral service for billionaire B.J. “Red” McCombs is expected to draw a large crowd to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts this morning.businessman and philanthropist B.J. “Red” McCombs
is expected to draw a large crowd of family, friends and admirers to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts this morning. Among those scheduled to speak are Gov. Greg Abbott and Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. Rev. Les Hollon, retired pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, will officiate.The service is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Doors will open at 9 a.m.
Entry will be first-come, first-served. The Tobin theater can hold 1,900 people, and the center will have overflow seating for up to 900 additional guests. Those planning to attend should allow time to go through security. Guests may park for free in the Tobin Center Parking Garage at 227 Fourth St. Free parking also is available in the First Baptist Church lot across the street from the center.McCombs died Feb. 19 at age 95. Raised in the West Texas town of Spur, he built an empire that included holdings in auto dealerships, communications, professional sports teams, oil and gas exploration, real estate and ranching.
