The Newtownards man made history when he became the first Irish gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal in Paris earlier this month
Olympic gold medalist Rhys McClenaghan has given fans a unique insight into his thought process in the days leading up to the greatest sporting moment of his life.
However, his previous Olympic Games ended in heartache three years ago in Tokyo when his final performance didn't go to plan and an Olympic medal slipped through his grasp. "And to me, there's no way of resisting those thoughts. You just kind of let them happen. I think when you start to resist those emotions that's when they become bigger than what they are when what they are is just fleeting thoughts of fiction."
