Associated Press, Rockets coach Stephen Silas said on Tuesday how helpful all those messages had been for him and his family. On Thursday, Silas, his mother Carolyn Silas, and his sister, Paula Silas-Guy issued a statement to thank the many that have reached out.
“We would like to thank everyone who has reached out to give their condolences and share their memories of our husband and father, Paul Silas, they said in a statement released by the Rockets and NBA. “This has been an extremely difficult week, but it has been amazing to hear from so many of the people he impacted throughout his life.
Stephen Silas returned to coach the Rockets on Tuesday after missing one game and one practice following his father’s sudden passing. He was with the team again Thursday morning. The Silas family said that details of a memorial to take place early in 2023 were still being finalized.Paul Silas played in the NBA for 16 seasons and was an NBA head coach or assistant for 23 seasons. Stephen Silas said he was moved and appreciative when so many reached out to him and his family.
“It’s been really helpful for not just me, my mom, my sister, my wife, my brother-in-law, we’ve been spending a lot of time together for the last 72 hours,” Silas said. “Just seeing the outpouring of love for my dad, the respect that people had, have. And the cool this is it’s not so much about the basketball player he was or the coach that he was, it was so much more about the person that he was. That’s been very helpful.
