The new Labour government could be set to reform the energy market and remove gas-fired power stations.
Scots who switch to a heat pump could save more than £500 a year in bills if the new Labour government reforms the energy market, campaigners say. A WWF Scotland and Nesta Scotland report found 95 per cent of Scots who swap their gas boiler out for the eco-friendly alternative could make huge energy savings.
The analysis by WWF Scotland and Nesta, using data from Cambridge Architectural Research, found that today, around a quarter of homes would see lower bills from installing a heat pump. The charities also piled pressure on the Scottish Government to deliver its Heat in Buildings Bill “to lay the foundations” for the clean heat revolution. Under draft Holyrood plans, from 2028, some homebuyers in Scotland could be required to fit heat pumps within a set period after purchasing a property.
