The Lib Dems warned the high-risk job was now being left 'to fewer and fewer firefighters and staff'.
Scotland's national fire service has been "cut to the bone" by the SNP after 1,000 staff left over the last decade.
The number of control staff, support staff and volunteers have all also declined. Both sets of figures represent the lowest levels of staff on record. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was launched in 2013 and replaced regional fire brigades across the country - a move critics believe paved the way for staff reductions.
"Scottish Lib Dems want to see the government invest in our fire service. That means properly resourcing and equipping the service so that it can tackle the challenges it faces day-in, day-out."
