Of the many lessons CIOs will take away from the ongoing global health crisis, one stands out: Integrated digital workflows are no longer optional. “This crisis is highlighting the need to be digitally transformed,” says Pablo Stern, senior vice president and general manager of IT workflow products at ServiceNow. “With added physical distance, concerns around health and new ways of working, it's now more important than ever to break down silos across an organization.
“The strongest IT organizations already had system services and the visibility to move quickly,” Stern says. “These CIOs had nimble teams that could respond quickly and adapt to the needs of the company and its employees.” Likewise, nearly half of CIOs believe they play a “major role” in increasing their organization’s enterprise’s efficiency and reducing costs. Just 23% of CEOs agree.
“Second, they love innovation,” Stern says. “They're really thinking about innovation in terms of horizons—first horizon, second horizon, third horizon.” Those CIOs who thrive are building multi-year innovation journeys, not fiscal-year roadmaps.
