Darren Reaney later told a Probation Officer he did have ‘difficulties’ with his neighbours
The act of arson, which Darren Reaney carried out on January 17, 2023, risked endangered the lives of his neighbours.
In the call, Reaney’s father said his son had taken drugs and had started a fire at his Housing Executive flat at St George’s Gardens. Her claim was not accepted by Reaney and when he was arrested three days after the fire, he told police he had been forced out of his flat by paramilitaries. A defence barrister said Reaney has long-standing addiction issues with drink and drugs and that due to his intoxication on the day in question, he has “little recollection” of events.
