Scammers don't only target individuals or businesses. They also go after nonprofits and churches.
A Susquehanna Valley church reached out to News 8 On Your Side about scammers trying to dupe it.The church received two different emails, but the con is the same: It's known as 'the fake invoice scam.'The church got a phony invoice saying its computer virus subscription had been activated.Scammers are hoping you respond to these types of emails to stop the charges.
When you do, the crooks will try to get personal information or your credit card number. The second email to the church claimed to be from Geek Squad and said the church was charged $315 for a service. The email advised the church to call if it didn't make the purchase.Again, scammers are hoping to talk to you and will pretend to try to get you a refund.Protect yourselfNever call a phone number on any emails like this.
