Kersharn Dockeray-Barnett claimed he killed Reece Connor with a knife the victim had been carrying
A teenager has been found guilty of murdering a father-of-two in Nottingham on Christmas Day. After almost 12 hours of deliberation, a jury convicted Kersharn Dockeray-Barnett by a majority of 11 to one of the unlawful killing of Reece Connor who died from a single stab wound inflicted by the defendant at the city’s Crown Island.
On Friday, July 19, they cleared the defendant’s foster cousin, 24-year-old Morgan Keaton-Adlam, of any involvement at all in the tragic stabbing. Mr Connor, 29, suffered a fatal stab wound inflicted by the teenage defendant in Wollaton Road, on December 25, last year. The knife, which Dockeray-Barnett told his trial the victim took to the scene and not him, punctured the main artery from the heart.
During the trial at Nottingham Crown Court, prosecutor John Lloyd-Jones KC said an ambulance crew arrived within eight minutes of a 999 call being made following the stabbing but Mr Connor was sadly pronounced dead around an hour later at the Queen’s Medical Centre. During the trial, Dockeray-Barnett said: “Keaton punched him, I think it was around the head area and they began grappling with each other. Mr Connor was laughing in a psychotic manner and I was still quite scared.
Defence barrister Peter Moulson KC said: “How did you have the knife?” Dockeray-Barnett replied: “Because it was dropped I dived to get it and I was just thinking ‘if he gets hold of it he’s going to kill me’ and I stabbed him one time.”
