The £3.5m Central Bay development at Salford Quays houses a 20-kitchen food hall, shipping container kitchens, a bar and a waterside terrace overlooking The Lowry and Old Trafford
A brand new waterfront food and drink destination with a sun terrace and host of food traders at Salford Quays has finally be unveiled.
Named after the original stretch of dock which was once a thriving loading bay during the industrial revolution, Central Bay sits at the heart of a number of Salford landmarks, which can be admired from its south-facing outside terrace, providing space for up to 600 visitors. For an area that hasn't previously being regarded as a destination for food and drink, but rather as a television and broadcasting hub - at least during the last decade - the arrival of Central Bay, Kargo MKT and later this year a trendy waterside bar and microbrewery and gin distillery courtesy of Salford's own Seven Bro7hers Brewing and Sis4ers Distillery, couldn't come soon enough.
So, lets dig in, what exactly is on offer at Kargo MKT? Some names will be instantly recognisable, such as Ad Maiora, the schiacciata sandwich specialists who have gained a loyal following for their truly massive sarnies - one weighs in at more than 1kg and has 10+ authentic Italian ingredients crammed into its freshly baked bread.
