The USD volleyball team has reached historic heights. Coach Jennifer Petrie says the best of her 22 NCAA teams in 24 years is 'far from finished.'
Minutes after the University of San Diego swept Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, Toreros volleyball coach Jennifer Petrie walked into the locker room and was doused with water by her giddy, screaming players.
There are multiple factors that make this year’s USD team so formidable. One, is obvious talent. A Mt. Carmel High product, Petrie is in her 24But in the past, Petrie admitted the program was typically missing one element, be it one more attacker or elite defender on the back row or a precise setter.Four different players have led the team in kills this season. Katie Lukes , Breana Edwards and Grace Frohling all average double figure kills.
USD lost the third set in the first two rounds of the tournament to Northern Colorado and again to Washington State only to bounce back with easy fourth-set wins. “There is so much joy to it,” said Blossom. “I think that has led to a lot of success. We believe in each other. This whole season has been a fun journey to success.”
