“He has created a recipe for disaster,” Trump’s reelection campaign said about Gov. Phil Murphy’s executive order that will provide a mail-in ballot to every New Jersey voter.

President Trump’s reelection campaign sued New Jersey Tuesday night after Gov. Phil Murphy signed an executive order that would provide every voter with a mail-in ballot for November’s election and came hours after Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said he would halt planned changes to the U.S. Postal Service as intense backlash and fear over potential impact on mail-in ballots continues to grow.

The complaint alleges that Murphy’s executive order was “illegal” because he surpassed New Jersey’s legislature in changing state election law, and that automatically sending ballots to all voters “makes fraud and other forms of illegal voting inevitable” in violation of their constitutional rights.just hours earlier to sue the USPS over concerns that voting by mail could face sabotage over DeJoy’s planned changes to mail service.

DeJoy, however, backed off his proposed changes by midday Tuesday, announcing that those efforts would be paused until after the November election “to avoid even the appearance of any impact on election mail.” “We welcome today's retreat by the Postmaster General,” Grewal tweeted after DeJoy’s announcement, but added that he and other state attorneys general remain concerned about the changes already implemented.“Creating opportunities for ineligible voters to cast ballots invites fraud and undermines the public’s confidence in the integrity of elections,” writes the Trump campaign in its suit, echoing the president’s numerous attacks on voting by mail.
