These vaccines and antibodies cannot cause SARS-CoV-2 infection or COVID-19 illness. They do not contain any live or killed virus. Participants in these studies may be exposed to the virus in their everyday lives, but they will not be exposed to the virus as part of the study These are studies of preventive vaccines that we hope will keep people healthy.
What Are the Different Stages of Clinical Studies to Test Preventive Vaccines and Antibodies Against COVID-19?Phase 1 studies test the safety of a product. This means seeing if there are side effects, and whether the human body can tolerate the vaccine or antibody. The experimental product is often compared to a group that receives a placebo, a substance such as sterile saltwater that has no active ingredients.
