One of my earliest childhood memories is of my dad assigning me a small, brick-surround flower bed in our garden, all of my very own, and with that he sparked my lifelong love of plants.
As we made our way down the steep slopes leading to the Eden Project's biomes it's fair to say we were both blown away by the sheer scale of the site. Abigail suggested it was like entering Jurassic Park and I can't argue with her comparison. From towering bamboo to huge flowering lilies your eyes are constantly drawn to some unusual, tropical plant and the closely-controlled atmosphere really does make you feel as if you're in the midst of some Amazonian rainforest. Everyone walks around with their phones to hand so they can take pictures of anything and everything.
The Eden Project isn't just for those who love gardening. It's especially geared towards children and as it was the Easter holidays when we visited there was an impressive array of activities for kids in the stage area. With several sections, including a wildlife scavenger hunt and a horticulturally-themed version of outdoors Guess Who, children collected stamps from each area and after amassing four were able to visit a collection point to choose two free treats.
