Spain is poised to become the latest country to welcome digital nomads Spain’s digital nomad visa is due to launch by 31 March and it will allow eligible Britons to live and work in the country for up to a year, with an option to renew.were first announced in January 2022 and it is part of the Startup Law, which the Spanish government approved in December.
Applicants will need to have an income from an employer or be self-employed with clients outside of Spain. They will only be able to get a maximum of 20 per cent of their income from Spanish firms. They will also need to show an employment contract or show that they have been working for companies outside of Spain for at least a year.
Their earnings must also allow them to be self-sufficient. To qualify, applicants must not have a criminal record and cannot have held residency status in Spain in the last five years.People who are living in Spain under the digital nomad visa will have to pay tax to the Spanish Government. However, for the first four years of their stay they will be taxed at 15 per cent rather than the regular 25 per cent rate of income tax.
