Exclusive: Screen Rant presents a featurette from the movie Wildflower, in which director Matt Smukler breaks down a pivotal Kiernan Shipka scene:
A touching family drama inspired by a true story, Wildflower is set to stream on Hulu starting on June 23. Screen Rant is proud to present an exclusive first look at a behind-the-scenes featurette in which director Matt Smukler breaks down his approach to a pivotal scene. The movie stars Kiernan Shipka as Bea, a teenage girl whose intellectually disabled parents have given her a loving home but inadvertently made her head of the household.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT As Wildflower progresses, Bea's collected exterior reveals cracks beneath the surface as she finds the pressures of acting like an adult to be too much for her. At the same time, she and her large extended family must face the fact that her father Derek and mother Sharon aren't as helpless as Bea believes.
At the same time, Derek and Sharon are standing their ground when it comes to their autonomy as adults. They do not want to be treated as disabled and feel content with each other and their family unit, despite their own parents' concerns and Bea's disagreements. Over the course of Wildflower, each character must learn to see the perspectives of their loved ones to come together as a supportive whole.
