Philip Taylor hid behind the moniker 'Frosty Bear'
A café owner and dad was unmasked as an Encrochat drug trafficker known as 'FrostyBear' after he purchased a Costco barbecue.
Alex Langhorn, prosecuting, described how messages revealed how Taylor, of Dartington Road in Childwall, worked on behalf of those higher up the chain, acting as a bookkeeper for the operations ran by 'OctoJungle' and 'PieChips'. The defendant was found to have 'kept detailed records' which showed his involvement in the supply of a further 70.5kg of cocaine and handling £1,045,580 in cash.
A further hint as to his identity came on April 7, when Frosty Bear told Red Letter that he had a van with "Kitchen 62" stickers on it "ready to go". Exactly a week later, on April 14, he told "SwampMaster" to meet him at this premises, a café he ran on Queens Drive. Frosty Bear then told Octo Jungle about buying a barbecue from the same shop seven days later on April 25. Records showed that Taylor had similarly been shopping for a grill from Costco that day.
