Glasgow Subway operators invest in dampers to improve comfort on new trains after passenger feedback. Meanwhile, a Glasgow court reduces the sentence of convicted drug lord Jamie 'Iceman' Stevenson.

Glasgow Subway operators, Strathclyde Partnership for Travel (SPT), have spent nearly £120,000 to address passenger complaints regarding the stability and noise levels of their new train fleet. The upgrades involved the installation of over 100 dampers on the trains, which gradually replaced the older carriages last year. While SPT affirmed that the new trains met safety standards, the dampers were implemented to enhance passenger comfort by reducing vibrations and noise.

The new trains are part of a £288 million upgrade program for the city's underground rail system. An SPT spokesperson stated, 'Following feedback from some passengers, SPT paid for the retrofitting of dampers to be added to the new train fleet to improve the ride quality of the trains in the system. While what the train manufacturer delivered met the applicable standards set for trains, we requested the additional dampers be added to further improve the ride.' The city's subway, once known as the 'Clockwork Orange' for its iconic bright orange carriages, saw many of its legacy carriages moved to museums, scrapped, or sold. The new trains, while retaining the same length as their predecessors, boast a 'walk-through' design, wheelchair accessibility, and air conditioning. In unrelated news, a Glasgow court has reduced the sentence of convicted drug trafficker Jamie 'Iceman' Stevenson. Stevenson had initially been sentenced to 20 years for a scheme to import £100 million worth of cocaine concealed in banana boxes. Additionally, a harrowing case unfolded in Glasgow, where three victims under the age of 13 suffered sexual abuse and violence in a drug den known as 'the beastie house.
