Storm Éowyn is set to bring heavy rain and strong winds to Glasgow this weekend, causing potential disruption across the country. A yellow weather warning is in place from Friday, January 24, to Saturday, January 25.

Storm Éowyn is poised to unleash heavy rain and forceful winds upon Glasgow this weekend, bringing with it the potential for widespread disruption across the country in the coming days. A yellow weather warning has been issued, effective from 12 am on Friday, January 24, until 3 pm on Saturday, January 25, encompassing Glasgow city and its neighboring regions.

This meteorological event is triggered by a powerful jet stream surging across the North Atlantic, delivering some of the most intense winds experienced this winter. Coastal areas are bracing for winds reaching 80 mph, while inland regions could face gusts of up to 60 mph. Meteorological experts from the Met Office anticipate that these forceful gusts could inflict damage on structures and even result in power outages in certain areas, alongside anticipated disruptions to travel. The Met Office forecasts the following: 'While there is a degree of uncertainty regarding Éowyn's trajectory, a period of exceptionally strong winds is highly likely, initially blowing from the southeast before shifting to a westerly direction. Peak gusts are projected to reach 50-60 mph inland, 60-70 mph around coastal regions and elevated areas, and potentially up to 80 mph in exposed parts of western Scotland. Winds are expected to diminish across southern areas of the warning zone during the early hours of Saturday, and this easing in wind intensity will gradually extend northward throughout Saturday.'To ensure your safety during these strong winds, consider these five essential tips: 1) Stay indoors as much as possible, especially if you live in a vulnerable area. 2) Secure loose objects outside your home, such as garden furniture, bins, and decorations, to prevent them from becoming airborne projectiles. 3) Avoid walking or driving near trees, as branches could break and fall. 4) Be cautious when using stairs or ladders, as strong winds can make them unstable. 5) If you encounter downed power lines, stay clear and report them to your local electricity provider immediately.
