Police have issued an update after a woman plunged through a hole in Blackpool Central Pier onto the beach below.
Horrified beachgoers watched on as she appeared to fall through the famous attraction at around 4.30pm on Tuesday . Emergency services rushed to the scene as families and others on the beach went to help her. The woman was rushed to hospital and the pier was evacuated and closed off following the incident. Lancashire Constabulary have this morning confirmed that the unnamed woman remains in hospital, although the full extent of her injuries are not yet clear.LancsLive has contacted North West Ambulance Service for comment. A gaping hole is visible in the flooring where she fell.
A witness who was at the beach with his children said: "I was walking on the beach with my kids and heard a thud a huge thud next to me nearly on top of my head. A lady ploughed to the floor, smashing through the Central Pier.Yesterday, a Lancashire Constabulary spokesperson said: "We have received a report of a woman having fallen through a section of the pier in Blackpool at around 4.30pm today. The woman has been taken to hospital with injuries. The pier is currently closed.
