Sick scammers are targeting the funerals of Stirling locals - some who have died young - in an attempt to dupe grieving friends and relatives into revealing their bank details.
One local minister - who has seen a spate of the despicable scams in just the last few weeks alone - is warning people to be on the alert.
They are then offering links to the live streaming of the funeral at a cost or setting up fake opportunities to donate money to lure them into submitting their bank details. And he is warning anyone who receives any such communication to be on the alert. “Basically they set up a Facebook page entitled ‘Livestream of funeral for ’, using a picture the deceased which they have found online, so it all looks very genuine.
“What I have been telling folk in Raploch is that, if a funeral is streamed live from the church, the livestream information would come from the church or from the funeral director, not from any other source.“Anything we can do to raise awareness of this scam is a good thing.”
