The horrifying pictures - revealed in a Sunday Mail exclusive - show parts of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital covered in pigeon droppings, infestations of insects and rotting cleaning sponges dumped in a water tank.
The campus has been plagued with infections scandals since opening in 2015 and is at the centre of a huge public inquiry where the scale of dirt was revealed.

Documents lay bare the hundreds of callouts to the facility while images show the mounds of bird faeces building up both inside and outside the hospital within months of it opening. In June that year, the maternity building was targeted by birds which had found their way in to the emergency exit stairwell and “fouled the hand rail, bannister, landings and stairway from the ground to top floor”.Images taken in January 2016 show piles of pigeon droppings on parapets and ledges of the neurosurgery building while the maternity building was having problems with live birds getting inside.
“This space contains cables and utility services but most of all 40/50 feral pigeons and associated detritus.” It has now emerged that three other patients who were treated at the QEUH campus also tested positive for Cryptococcus neoformans.In 2019, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde refused to release details of any other infections under the Freedom of Information Act.
Documents state the child was discharged after treatment for the infection but tested positive again in July 2020. The child later died. Lord Brodie also heard from an expert who had been asked to look at the ventilation system in the children’s cancer wards in 2018 when staff raised concerns that it wasn’t to the right standards.
