The UK braces for Storm Eowyn's impact with strong winds, potential for damage, power cuts, and travel disruptions. Yellow weather warnings are issued for Friday and Saturday.

The UK is bracing for strong winds brought by Storm Eowyn , named by the Met Office, which is expected to impact the country on Friday and into Saturday. The storm, fueled by low pressure, poses significant risks of disruption, including potential damage to buildings, power outages, and flying debris that could endanger lives. Travel is also anticipated to be severely affected, with roads, rail, airports, and ferries likely to face delays and cancellations.

The storm is projected to sweep close to or over the northwest of the UK, generating 'very strong' south-easterly and south-westerly winds. While inland areas could experience gusts reaching 60 mph, coastal regions may face even stronger winds, up to 80 mph. Although the storm's intensity is expected to lessen on Saturday, the Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for 'very strong winds' across the UK for 24 hours on Friday. The areas facing the brunt of the storm on Friday encompass a broad swathe of England and Wales, including East Midlands and West Midlands, London and southeast England, northwest England, southwest England, Wales, Yorkshire and Humber. Additionally, parts of Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands and Eilean Siar, Northern Ireland, Orkney and Shetland, southwest Scotland, Lothian Borders and Strathclyde, are also anticipated to be affected. For Saturday, a yellow wind warning remains in place for parts of northern England and Scotland. Eowyn marks the fifth named storm to hit the UK since the end of October. To minimize travel disruption, the Met Office recommends checking road conditions and timetables beforehand if planning on driving or using other means of transport. For power cut preparedness, gather essential items such as torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack. Furthermore, coastal residents are urged to exercise extreme caution as large breaking waves can pose a significant risk of being swept out to sea, even from the shore
